Jai Govind Stud today has come a long way from its small beginnings. It was set up by (Late) Th. Lt. Col. Govind Singh Khuri(VrC) after his retirement from the Indian Armed Forces in the early 80’s with three mares & one stallion on 20 Acres of land. That stallion was Thaumaturge (Thatch) who helped put the farm on the map thanks to his versatile progeny. He was the flag bearer for the farm and was joined by Formidable’s group winning juvenile Reasonable in the early 90’s.
Under Th. Lt. Col. Govind Singh’s competent charge the Broodmare band went up to Forty mares & the above Two stallions.
Notable winners during that period incl. Own Beauty (won Indian Turf Invitation), Arctic Light (won Stayers Cup, Eclipse Stakes of India, placed 3rd in Indian 1000 Guineas, Indian Oaks & Indian Derby), Aayush (won Calcutta St. Leger), Volcan (won Northumberland Trophy & placed in the Indian Oaks), Northern Command (won General Rajendra Singh Ji Trophy & placed in the Pune Derby), Gold Dust (won Pratap Stud Million), Red Buttons(won Poonawalla Breeders Million) & other high class performers Adams Glory, Afshaan, Better See, Napolean & Swift Foot.
Today the farm is run by Th. Lt. Col. Govind Singh’s sons, Brahamadeo Singh, Col. Bhopal Singh & Digvijay Singh. His daughter is married to trainer Magan Singh Jodha. Brahmadeo Singh & Digvijay Singh have always been involved with the farm right from the onset, Col. Bhopal Singh retired from the Indian Armed Forces. Digvijay looks after the finances & sales whilst Brahmadeo plays a key role in the daily running of the farm & supplies. The Broodmare band stands at 85 & the farm has grown to over 150 Acres spread into 3 establishments. Two of these establishments are in Jaipur (Rajasthan). The original farm is the Breeding & Foaling unit. A second farm was established Six miles away for raising yearlings.
As the number of stock increased, a third establishment was developed. A Hundred & Twenty acres of farm land at our ancestral property in Khuri (80 Miles from Jaipur)was converted into stables & paddocks for housing pregnant mares & weanlings.
The remainder of the farm land in Jaipur & Khuri is given over to producing fresh Lucerne (Alfa Alfa), Oat Hay & Barley for daily consumption.
The farm has a full time resident Vet, Dr. N Ravichandran who has been with us for close to a decade now. In house farriers & head grooms at all 3 establishments make sure for the smooth running on a day to day basis & well being of the stock
